Hello!

I am honored to formally invite you to the Berkeley Model United Nations Delegate Workshop '24, which will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The Delegate Workshop is an exciting, free opportunity for delegates to learn directly from our accomplished Secretariat the essential skills to excel in Model UN conferences.

Delegates can choose between four different courses in small group settings - Novice, Advanced, Crisis, and Chair Training - where they will learn and apply key skills that will help them succeed in conferences and beyond. These will follow a rotational structure similar to that of last year. In the first session, delegates will learn rules of procedure for their respective curriculum. Delegates will then attend a brief lecture on the Taliban Rule of Afghanistan in preparation for the second session, which consists of three workshops to practice research, speeches, and resolution writing. These workshops provide the opportunity to apply such skills in the context of our chosen topic; for example, delegates will practice giving speeches and writing resolutions as if they were in a committee on the topic. Finally, our third session concludes the day with a simulation on the aforementioned topic that enables delegates to apply the skills they learned into real-life practice.

In addition to the topic lecture, BMUN will also provide delegates with country assignments at the start of their DW committee, as well as a multitude of delegate resources (including country profiles and topic fact sheets) so that students may apply what they learn during DW into their work during simulation. Position papers are not required for this event. We will also hold an advisor meeting during which the advisors of participating schools will have the opportunity to meet one another, as well as the BMUN Secretariat.

Your health and safety are our utmost priority at BMUN. This year's Delegate Workshop will be held in person on the UC Berkeley campus, though COVID-19 precautions will be taken to ensure the health and safety of all attendees. Further information regarding COVID-19 protocol and logistics will be made available to you in the coming weeks.

You may register for the event by filling out the required form. I look forward to seeing you in October!

Sincerely,

Mahima Shyno
